OK, this post is a bit late since it's now day N+2, but I had some catching up to do before having enough free time to post pictures. Overall the conference was a success, or at least the attendees where happy. Putting Erin on the spot again... Many thanks go to her for putting up with a bunch of unruly programmers while managing to keep the C8H10N4O2 flowing.
Sorry to say, but I don't have good pictures of the last two sessions I attended, except for Erin's picture. But I'm sure Jeff will post some of them since I was also busy taking pictures with his camera during those sessions. One aspect of Colorado I discovered is that they seem intent on providing precise signage. What better way to mark the entrance to the Aspen Physics Center, than with an apt sign:
Either they have keen insight into the minds of scientists and programmers, or they have very athletic children in Aspen. One thing on everyone's mind during the conference was the abundance of wildlife in the Aspen area. The wildlife included birds (one specimen of which I posted in the previous entry), coyotes, dear, mouse, bears, and elk. And of course accompanying those would be warnings and signs:
Again, very detailed signs. I have a theory that they make them detailed so that you are forced to slow down enough to see them, and hence effect the purpose of the sign. The wildlife in Aspen seems to also be quite comfortable with the almost as wild humans. Bears in particular seem content to walk right into places, the Physics Center being a popular location to tread into. There where some signs mentioning a recent event in which one of the physicist was run over by a bear which had walked into the building and trampled over the scientist on the way out of the building. And much more imminent one such bear walked into the building during the conference. I'm just glad the auditorium doors where closed at that time. Last of the pictures, for now, are of the Denver airport again.
Hope to see you next year... on day N+356.
